Passage of LD 1913 hurts the backbone of the Maine economy – Maine’s workers. LD 1913, passed this afternoon in the House of Representatives, harming severely injured workers in order to line the pockets of the insurance industry. The legislature voted 75-71 to side with business over the working person.
LD 1913 will cap workers compensation benefits at ten years for the vast majority of severely injured workers moving forward, even if they cannot earn a living due to their injuries. This follows votes in the legislature which have hurt egg workers at the former Decoster Egg Farm and childcare workers. Yesterday, the legislature again stepped on middle class workers by allowing changes in the unemployment insurance rules that are in place to protect people when they have lost their job through no fault of their own.
Governor LePage and his legislative allies have worked hard this session to make it as difficult as they can for working Maine families. Instead of focusing on creating jobs or stimulating the economy this administration continues to bully the legislature and harm the people of Maine.

This will hurt employers because the citizens of Maine will not work for them if they do not value their employess. Employess who get hurt while working should be compensated especially if they can no longer work! This doesn’t mean they are lazy! Employers benefit from their labor! If the worker is hurt on the job it is the EMPLOYERS responsibility to ensure their well being. That is what insurance is for! If the employer has a safe environment then workplace injury should not be an issue!

I got injured at work Oct. 2009 – Was denied & delayed treatment – have done everything to make myself better to return to work. Only to be walked out and put on personal un-paid leave after working a year with this injury on light duty, Now fired for not being able to return to what I was hired for in 2007. Now in April 2012 have another Board Hearing, after already having them agree that it was work injury. And this is called INSURANCE – I have worked all my life and paid for my health insurance at the age of 55 I find myself at the 1st time in my life without health insurance. Have to get FREE CARE from local hospital & Drs. Please tell me WHO wants to hire me with all the restrictions that I will have for the rest of my life? My employer did not want me – I have witnessed a lot of FRAUD on the Employer end. I have done everything that I was by law required to do, Over a year with no wages, and still fighting for it – State Advocate is helping????? The whole process seemed to FAVOR the employer – Where is the hurt worker’s pain & suffering going to be? Pass it to the State?, SSD? Not making the right insurance’s pay for the coverage is the problem.

The state of Maine dont care about the working force, the only care taking ur money. They only care if ur a state employees,… Or on welfare .. The government will keep screwing the working man or women . protect the state employees, companies, and welfare people.
