Today the Maine Senate voted to strip collective bargaining rights from some of Maine’s most vulnerable workers. Over the years, DeCoster has had the worst labor record in the State. It is wrong to take away these workers’ rights to form a union.

Members of the Senate who voted today to repeal collective bargaining rights of DeCoster workers should be ashamed of their action.

Factory farming like that at DeCoster is low wage, dangerous work.

The freedom to associate is a fundamental freedom that should not be taken away. Maine people did not send their legislators to Augusta to harm workers and take away peoples rights. Unfortunately, that is what they did today.

Repealing these workers collective bargaining rights will not create a single job or do anything to improve the Maine economy. Our elected officials need to focus on getting our economy back on track, not making life harder for Maine’s lowest paid workers.
