Maine workers delivered Valentine’s Day messages to Gov. LePage and state legislators today. Rallying on their lunch hour outside the State House, the workers held signs urging Gov. LePage and state legislators to show some heart for the workers who make Maine open for business. The workers’ messages included “Jobs Not Cuts,” “Respect Us,” “Be Fair” and “Honk if You Love Fair Contracts.” With 100,000 Mainers still out of work, Gov. LePage and state legislators should be focused on creating jobs and ensuring quality public services for everyone in Maine instead of making life harder for Maine’s working families by pushing harmful legislation like LD 1571 attacking worker protections under the Maine Workers’ Compensation System; LD 1725 making it harder for unemployed workers to collect Unemployment Insurance; and LD 309 weakening the collective bargaining rights of Maine workers.
